The "Flip's Fund" was established shortly after Philip "Flip" Merwin passed away from a snowmobile racing accident in January 2003. As a result, the fund was set up to benefit children with critical illness, and for college marketing programs.
Since the original fund was established, additional funds have been made from other great events such as a memorial stock car race at State Park Speedway, as well as a memorial golf outing sponsored by the Rib Mountain Business Association. Private contributions have also been added.
The Wausau 525 Snowmobile Championship is held annually to benefit local children with cancer and/or critical care needs. Local scholarships are also issued annually.
